The Manor House PACT project has been awarded £1 million by The Big Lottery Fund as part of its £12 million Communities Living Sustainably programme over the next three years. There are many ways for the community to get involved and benefit from what’s going on.
The PACT Aim
The Manor House PACT project will reach out to local people, build on and celebrate their connectedness, community spirit and imagination, help understand what motivates them, and enable them to live more sustainably in the face of climate change.
PACT will address the priorities of the people of Manor House and help build a strong sustainable legacy focused on three key areas:
There are plenty of ways to get involved… And we want you to join us!
Get involved with PACT
You don’t have to know lots about the environment to get involved. We’re encouraging everyone in the Manor House PACT area to get involved in as many ways as they’d like to, to create stronger links between people within our area.
Do you want to lower your heating bills and feel part of the local community?
PACT Home – Home Visits
We’re looking for residents interested in volunteering to become a PACT Champion. You will receive training on how to conduct a home energy assessment and start helping local householders by offering advice and practical support. We’re also looking for residents who would like access to energy saving advice and/or to have their homes assessed by our trained PACT Champions.
PACT Home - Better Neighbourhoods project
Would you like to gain new skills by signing up to volunteer research positions? We’re looking for people interested in measuring air pollution and exploring local climate issues.
PACT Home - Closer Neighbours project
Get together with your neighbours to reduce energy use, learn about local food and get to know each other better. Closer Neighbours groups will be set up to help residents support each other, monitoring how people are getting on and providing a support network in times of extreme weather.
Are you looking for training opportunities that could lead to employment?
PACT Green Vocational Training will provide a range of training packages, helping people get better access to local employment opportunities coming from the Green Economy and social enterprise sectors.
PACT Open Spaces training will offer residents access to training courses including health and safety, first aid, land management machinery use, energy assessment and creating a forest garden to improve skills and employability.
Do you love the great outdoors?
PACT Open Spaces will target places which are ripe for improvement and you’ll have to opportunity to help shape what they become. We’ll also provide activities in the area through the Closer Neighbours groups, plus vocational training, work-experience and opportunities to become involved in social enterprises. Not only that, there’ll be PACT Wildlife and Foraging Walks, helping you discover your local area’s green spaces.
Plus: You’re invited to PACT Meals and PACT Festivals which will be taking place throughout the three year project. If you enjoy cooking and would like to help create meals for the community, or would like to participate in setting up a festival, get in touch!
So, are you up for being one of the first few people to get involved? We’d love to hear from you. First, you can sign up to this website and become part of the community, using forums and participating in discussions. You can also come to any of our events, contact us via @manorhousepact on Twitter, by phone on 020 8356 7590 or via email: vivien.macdona@mhdt.org.uk
